Oh, and thank you ms_cucumber for pointing out the two icons (Dickens', never Dickens's and Dickens's, not Dickens') to me. They are intentionally contradictory because there isn't a set rule for them, and writers have their own preference, as long as they're writing Dickens' or Dickens's and not Dicken's or something. I personally prefer Dickens', mainly because when I was at school, I was told up and down that it was Dickens' and never Dickens's - my teacher was a bit old-fashioned!

Very cool. But aren't 2 and 14 contradictory?

From the Chicago Manual of Style:
Q. When indicating possession of a word that ends in s, is it correct to repeat the s after using an apostrophe? For example, which is correct: “Dickens’ novel” or “Dickens’s novel”?

A. Either is correct, though CMOS 15 recommends the latter.
really quite: Dickens'! Not Dickens's!fairly on August 3rd, 2007 05:36 pm (UTC)
Yes, they're meant to be, for people who prefer to write Dickens', and for people who prefer to write Dickens's. I prefer Dickens' myself, but I didn't just want to have an icon that reflected my views.
